At a distance of approximately 70 km from Bangalore, Savandurga is located on the Magadi Road. With a height of 1226 meters above sea level, Savandurga hill is considered to be one of the largest monolith hills in not just India but in Asia too.
A part of the Deccan plateau, it is constituted of gneiss, granites, basic dykes and laterites. The beauty of this place is enhanced by the Arkavathi River which flows through the Thippagondanahalli reservoir, towards the Manchanabele Dam. Earlier this hill was also called with the name of Savandi, during 1340 AD. It is also said that the name had been derived from Samantadurga.
This hill witness umpteen numbers of tourists every year. A popular religious spot, Savandurga hill accommodates famous temples namely Savandi Veerabhadreshwara Swamy and Narasimha Swamy temple which are regular visited by pilgrims.
It is a great place for nature lovers too. People looking for a refreshing break from the chaotic day to day lives, can be seen here picnicking. The calm surroundings of the hill make it a perfect place to have a few relaxing moments.
