History of Bugle Rock Park Bangalore

Bugle Rock is one of the oldest rock formations in the world. It gets its name from an age-old practice from the ruling dynasties of Bangalore, when these rocks were used as watchtowers. A sentry blew a bugle at the end of the day, either to alert everyone of an intruder or tell them that the area is safe. The rocks were also used as torches, as many of them are hollow. The area was a military camp during the British colonial regime, too.

Things to do in Bugle Rock Park

1. Exploring ancient rock formations – The massive rocks are the highlight of Bugle Rock Park Bangalore. They’re some of the oldest rock formations on Earth, estimated to be over 3,000 million years old. Covered with patches of moss and natural vegetation, these rocks create a dramatic landscape that feels surprisingly surreal amid urban surroundings.

2. Visiting the historic watchtower – One of the most interesting features of the park is the historic Bugle Tower built on the rock formations. It’s the place where sentries were stationed to blow a bugle at the end of the day. Gentle stone steps lead to the top, offering panoramic views of the surrounding cityscape of Bengaluru.

3. Enjoying a walk through greenery – Bugle Rock Park is filled with towering trees, shaded pathways, and lush greenery that provide a refreshing escape from the city’s busy environment. You can take a leisurely walk along the well-maintained pathways while enjoying the greenery. The park also has an open-air gym with basic exercise equipment for light outdoor workouts.

4. Taking blessings in the temples – Within the park premises, you’ll find a few small temples, reflecting the spiritual heritage of the Basavanagudi area. Built in traditional South Indian architectural style, these temples feature intricate stonework. Statues of notable personalities such as Kempe Gowda and D. V. Gundappa are also in the park. Apart from those, the famous Dodda Basavana Gudi (Bull Temple) and Dodda Ganapathi Temple are located right next to Bugle Rock Park.
