It brings together stories, instruments and listening experiences, offering rich insights into the diverse musical genres of India.
The themed galleries of IME showcase the history of everything from classical traditions and folk voices to experimental music. A one-of-a-kind Sound Garden is also part of the museum. It enables you to listen, experiment and connect with music in unexpected ways.
Traditional or contemporary, young or old, the Indian Music Experience Museum Bangalore has something for everyone. It’s an ideal location for a day-long family outing.
Where is the Indian Music Experience Museum?
The Indian Music Experience Museum location is in JP Nagar, Bengaluru. It’s a non-profit initiative supported by the Brigade Group. The vision of the IME is to preserve India’s rich musical heritage and introduce the youth to the diversity of Indian music. And today, the Indian Music Experience Museum JP Nagar has become one of the most visited spots in the area. It also has community projects which involve teaching music to children and engaging youth in music internships.
History of Indian Music Experience Museum
The idea of setting up the Indian Music Experience Museum came to the founder, M.R. Jaishankar, during a visit to Seattle. He visited the Experience Music Project (now called the Museum of Pop Culture) there, and he was struck by how creatively it had been designed as a visitor-centric space.
Officially opened on December 13, 2018, IME Bengaluru is one of the rare museums where you’re encouraged to touch and feel things. This place is for music lovers of all kinds of genres, exploring the history behind plenty of iconic songs and music makers.
The building is designed by the Bengaluru-based firm Architecture Paradigm, and it follows the curvilinear shapes of the trees here. Its flowing facade symbolises the continuum of Indian music. Its exhibits were designed by the world-renowned Gallagher & Associates, who conceptualised the Grammy Museum in LA and the Woodstock Museum in New York.
