Located on north eastern part of the city, Ulsoor Lake is quite close to the happening M.G. Road of Bangalore. One of the popular attractions of Bangalore, the credit of construction of this lake goes to the Kempe Gowda II.
Sir Lewin Bentham Bowring, the then Commissioner of Bangalore led to the construction of this beautiful body of water. One of the few big lakes of Bangalore, Ulsoor lake is also one of the oldest lakes in the city. Once covered with dense forest, it is now spread across an area of approximately 1.5 kms and has 2 springs which are now covered with heavy silt.
Once a popular recreational site of the Mysore Wadiyars, this lake is still quite popular amongst tourists who wish to spend a few quiet moments amidst the refreshing nature. According to some legends, Wadiyars have once left a fish with a diamond nose ring into this lake.
Previously called as Halsur or Alasur Lake, it is now used as one of the important venue for the Ganesha Festival. Although the lake is not suitable for swimming, you can have a refreshing swimming experience at the recreational complex which is located quite close by.
However, at the lake you can go for boating. There is a boat club here which facilitate enjoyable boating experience for all the visitors. The Guruwara, located near to the lake, is also another popular tourist attraction. The temple dedicated to Subbaraya and the Kensington Park are other two sightseeing places which are located close by.
